The Raw Dog Food Diet

For a while now, I’ve been hearing more and more about raw dog food, also known as BARF or Biologically Appropriate Raw Food, which mimics how an animal would consume food in the wild.

If you are like me, you are always looking for the best of the best to give your canine companion. I didn’t jump on the raw food wagon too soon, since I knew I was feeding my dogs a highly rated dog food. But a part of me was very curious if this ‘newish’ type of diet was even better. Few friends that have tried it said they noticed no more allergies or hot spots, clearer eyes and ears. More energy. Softer fuller coat and better health in general.

So, I did what every good dog pawrent would do–I Googled it. Right away, I was completely overwhelmed by all the different brands and their offerings. Delivered to your door, dry frozen, patties, nuggets, organic… the list goes on an on.

I decided to do more extensive research and compare the top brands; and now, I’m sharing my findings with my Dog512 community 💙.

I want to make very clear I am not an expert nutritionist. I’m an ordinary dog mom, who did this research for my own benefit, and decided to share it to inspire others to look for more information. It is always recommended to consult with your veterinarian before switching your dog’s diet.

In order to compare all ingredients and nutrition facts, I created this table. For this specific comparison, I chose the chicken recipe for all brands (with the exception of Grocery Pup since they don’t have a chicken option I selected Turkey). I also color code all animal protein with red, vegetables with green and fruits with purple to easily identify them.

As you can see, these are all great options. To be honest, I’m inspired to change my own diet. (Ha!) My goal with this post was to make it easier for people looking for more information on a dog’s raw diets. I’m not here to tell you what to feed your dog. But if you were considering a raw diet for your dog, I hope this helps you narrow down your options. 😊

I wish all my followers and all their good dogs a Happy New Year 2019 🐾
